Leisure Center: Axo Plage

This leisure center, located 6 km from Les Margotteries in Monampteuil, offers a variety of activities accessible to everyone from April to September.

The Ailette Greenway is a 17 km cycle path, technically known as the V30.

Whether you’re walking, cycling, scootering, or rollerblading, it’s the perfect route for you. Stretching between the Axo’Plage leisure center and the Vauclair Abbey site, the trail takes you through a variety of landscapes.

This route is certified Tourism & Handicap accessible.

Bruyères Goat Farm

Come and discover the Bruyères Goat Farm, located in a beautiful historic fort just 9 km from Lierval.

You’ll find delicious farmhouse cheeses, artisanal goat milk soaps, and educational activities to learn about the work of goat farmers. Enjoy a full immersion where you can feed, brush, and milk the goats—a fun experience for both children and adults.

The Medieval City of Laon

A fortified town located 12 km from Les Margotteries,

Laon is home to numerous medieval monuments. Its underground is crisscrossed with tunnels that you can visit.

Perched at the top, its majestic cathedral has earned it the nickname “Crowned Mountain.”

Be sure to stop by the tourist office to discover all the events and activities during your visit.

The Dragon’s Cave

Discover this site dedicated to the memory of the First World War (1914–1918).

Located just 14 km from Lierval, The Dragon’s Cave highlights elements of a history full of memories.

Through objects found in the galleries, visitors are fully immersed in the daily lives of the soldiers of the Chemin des Dames.

Vauclair Abbey

Nestled in the heart of the Vauclair State Forest, 16 km from our cottage,

discover the remains of the abbey, which suffered extensive damage during the First World War due to its proximity to the Chemin des Dames, yet today stands as one of the most picturesque sites in the Laonnois region.

As the endpoint of the Ailette cycling route, it remains a highly sought-after spot for walks and relaxation. It’s a peaceful haven for hikers, with numerous marked trails throughout the forest.

You can also enjoy the Vauclair guinguette from April to October for a drink or a light snack.

The Chemin des Dames Observation Tower

The Observation Tower overlooks the Plateau of Californie, a key strategic site during the war on the Chemin des Dames.

Standing 20 meters tall and accessible via a walking trail, it offers a historical perspective on the landscapes and highlights the importance of high ground during the war.

Visitors who climb the tower are rewarded with an unparalleled view of the village of Craonne below, as well as the Chemin des Dames and the Champagne Plain.
