7 ideas for a family or friends weekend in the Aisne
Why not get together after the summer?
Summer is over, the holidays are already a memory… and diaries are slowly starting to fill up again.
So why wait for the next summer holidays to bring the whole family together or catch up with your group of friends?
Sometimes a weekend is all it takes to reconnect, laugh, eat well and simply enjoy being together.

1. Get together… without necessarily planning anything
This might be the most important one.
When a group gets together, there's sometimes a temptation to fill every minute of the weekend: an activity in the morning, a visit in the afternoon, a restaurant in the evening…
But in the end, the best memories are often the ones nobody planned.
A long, lazy breakfast.
Drinks that start a little too early.
A big table where everyone talks at once.
The children playing while the grown-ups chat.

2. Explore the Chemin des Dames
You can't stay in Lierval without discovering one of the most iconic historic areas of the Aisne: the Chemin des Dames.
The Caverne du Dragon, in particular, is an excellent idea for a group outing. This former underground quarry, now a memorial site, offers a different way to discover the history of the First World War.
You can also explore the various historic sites along the Chemin des Dames and enjoy the Aisne countryside.
And if the weather turns?
A short visit, then back to the warmth of Les Margotteries!
3. Plan a trip to Laon
Not far from the house, Laon is also well worth a short trip.
Its hilltop old town, medieval lanes, ramparts and famous cathedral make for a lovely outing with family or friends.
No need to spend the whole day there: a few hours are enough to wander, take in the heritage and stop for a coffee before heading back.
And that's another advantage of staying at Les Margotteries: you can easily alternate between outings and relaxing at the house.
4. Enjoy the countryside around Lierval
When the sun comes out, make the most of it and get some fresh air!
The area around Lierval offers plenty of walks and places to discover, especially around Vauclair Abbey and the Ailette valley.
The Ailette greenway is a great way to explore the area at a gentle pace, on foot or by bike.
And for a family-friendly outing, Axo'Plage in Monampteuil can be a good option when the season and the weather allow.
No need to plan a 20-kilometre hike: a short stroll before heading back to enjoy the spa can be more than enough!
5. Organise an activity that brings everyone together
Are there 10, 12 or 15 of you?
In that case, it's sometimes better to plan one good activity for the whole group rather than trying to keep everyone happy separately.
Escape game, team challenge, creative activity, foodie workshop, karaoke or themed evening…

And to say to each other, on Sunday as you're leaving
“We really should do this more often.”
